Brewery toasts a move to the city with Quays beer

A brewery moving to Peterborough is toasting their relocation by forging links with the growth of the city.

Mile Tree Brewery’s Quays beer will be on tap at the CAMRA Peterborough Beer Festival and has come about due to an association with the Peterborough Investment Partnership (PIP).

PIP is bringing forward the development of the Fletton Quays site, situated close to the Embankment where the popular annual festival takes place.

Mile Tree Brewery is run by Richard and Karen Matthews, and Richard said: “Peterborough is a fantastic city and we have wanted to relocate our brewery here for a while. We are always in the city, be it visiting one of its fine pubs or at the beer festival, so we can’t fail to have noticed the development of the city centre and Fletton Quays.

“We spoke with the Peterborough Investment Partnership and that’s when the idea for the Quays beer came about. The Quays beer is a medium strength amber ale full of hops and with a fruity flavour, so keep an eye out for it if you’re going to the festival. We hope to continue to be involved with the Peterborough community once we have settled into our new city home.”

PIP is a joint venture formed by Peterborough City Council and the GB Strategic Land Fund which aims to support the sustained growth and development of local communities across the city.

Howard Bright, Principal Development Manager at Peterborough Investment Partnership, said: “The city centre is a vibrant place and Fletton Quays will make it an even more prosperous and exciting place to be. It is fantastic to be able to link up with Mile Tree Brewery and we hope they have a successful time at the beer festival.”

The completed Fletton Quays scheme will see new high-quality new homes, offices, a hotel, restaurant, leisure and retail facilities, making use of outstanding views across the River Nene.

Leader of Peterborough City Council and Chair of the PIP board, Councillor John Holdich, said: “It is really great to see businesses like Mile Tree Brewery choosing Peterborough as their new home. This is an exciting time for the city centre and Fletton Quays will be an integral part of the future as we continue to develop in the years to come.”

Mile Tree Brewery was set up in in Wisbech in 2012 and its real ales have won several awards. Its new brewery will be at an outlet in Woodston.

The CAMRA Peterborough Beer Festival runs from Tuesday 22 August to Saturday 26 August 2017.
