Local Government

Support for local government and other public sector partners is a central part of the Athene offer. Our understanding of the public policy agenda and of communities – honed through our work with Peterborough City Council and its local strategic partnership – has helped us to develop coherent and cost-effective solutions that embrace all audiences.

Since 2003, Athene’s Managing Director, Richard Astle, has acted as Director of Peterborough’s local strategic partnership, leading work to develop the city’s sustainable community strategy and local area agreement.    This has involved building strong partnerships across all sectors – public, private, voluntary and community; strong engagement and communication has been at the heart of this work.

Most recently, Athene’s Deputy Managing Director, Caroline Parsons pioneered a ground breaking shared services model between the Council and the local hospitals.

We are also currently working with the Bedfordshire and Luton Local Resilience Forum to raise public awareness of what to do in an emergency.

Our services to local government and public sector partners have also included:

  • providing interim head of communication cover
  • crisis management communication to assist with specific issues
  • developing community consultation programmes for rural and hard to reach groups
  • media relations support - both for specific projects and to cover in-house resource gaps
  • communication campaign for the local Future Jobs Fund
  • website development for the Future Jobs Fund, Back to Business Club and local strategic partnership
  • events management – including the BBC Springwatch event in Peterborough in 2007 for over 12,000 visitors.
