Celebrating vital Day Opportunities scheme
Raising awareness of adult support programme with PR campaign
Day Opportunities is a service run by City College Peterborough that offers day and employment support to adults under 65 with a learning disability, autism or complex needs.
Athene Communications worked alongside the Day Opportunities team to support this vital function and raise awareness of the service over a six-month period in 2019/2020.
Day Opportunities provision was in a position where it needed to secure funding and sought to share the importance of the service as being financially sound giving cost avoidance to the local authority through facilitation of employment and independent living.
We helped the Day Opportunities team spread the word about their initiative by:
- Creating professional videos of the team and sharing individual success stories from those involved in the opportunities
- Achieving press coverage to demonstrate their fantastic efforts across Peterborough
- Arranging a successful event with stakeholders, local councillors and local businesses, with BBC Look East and other members of the media in attendance
The event and comprehensive media coverage successfully highlighted the importance of Day Opportunities to key stakeholders and the local community, and employers expressed interest in supporting the scheme.
The required funding was successfully granted allowing the service to continue to provide essential support.
Day Opportunities runs four sites around Peterborough where more than 250 adults are part of the scheme helping them to live the fullest life possible. This includes running micro-enterprises including a catering company and Hampton Handy Crafts, where adults make gifts out of wood to sell.
